Do not hesitate if you are in the market for a 50-inch TV – this is one of the very best TV’s available at the best possible price from the best retailer in the market. Second thought – this is my third attempt to find the right TV with Amazon in the past two months, and I am very grateful for Amazon’s ‘Gold Glove’ level of customer service. I first purchased a Samsung PN50C550 plasma – great image quality, but the Samsung had significant image retention issues and a horizontal image banding effect that they would not warranty after two service visits. Returned this TV for the Toshiba 55 LED 240hz 3D. One word – flashlighting. Significant bright spots on the screen in any moderately dark picture. Also, after becoming accustomed to plasma, the LED was a huge step down in picture quality in every way describable – I won’t even try to elaborate. Never realized the importance of off angle viewing that you get with a plasma!! Amazon picked both TV’s up, re-packaged and carted them away without any trouble. We saw a 8000 model in BestBuy and were looking to buy that. I did some research and in the end settled with this 7000 model. We checked out the Sony also, but feel that the Samsung had a superior picture. The picture is absolutely amazing, both with BluRay and also HD TV stations. The picture is extremely clear and adds depth to the picture. Once you put the glasses on it adds a fun 3d experience. Although currently there are limited 3d movies titles available. I believe a lot more will be released later in 2011. Also be aware that the glasses are currently 0 each! We got a great deal. Along with the TV we received a free 3d BluRay player and Shrek starter kit (x2 glasses and Shrek 1, 2, 3 and 4). Be aware that this 50″ is plasma, whereas the other sizes are LCD. Plasma actually offers a slightly better picture quality to LCD with deeper blacks; but it is not good for video games. You could experience the image being burnt in with excessive playing. If you want to play video games on this TV, I would recommend one of the other sizes which is LCD. As with most TV’s the speakers on the TV are not up to par. This TV is actually lighter and thinner. Some things to be aware of before purchase include: 1) My 50″ had a recessed area in the back for the cable connections and a low profile wall mount worked great. This 60″ TV needs clearance for the cables. I have it about 1 inch away from the wall and the cables are smashed at the connection point. 2) My 50″ had a matte screen option that I paid a little extra for and really liked. This 60″ screen is a little more glossy. I have it in a room with lots of daylight and there is some reflection. The bezel around the screen is high gloss black with the bottom center fading into a brushed silver to highlight the Panasonic logo. The thing I do notice when the TV is off is a few wavy lines of distortion on the semi glossy screen. This distortion appears to be under the front glass. It has absolutely no effect on the picture when the TV is on. 3) TV came in “Standard” mode which is to dark. I put it on “Custom” and set it how I liked it. “Cinema” mode seems to be OK too. 4) Speakers are adequate but you may be disappointed. I hooked it up to a Panasonic receiver.
